Lanarkshire's Lady is my Clydesdale Cross Mare foaled in 2000.  I purchased her from her original owner in Michigan.  She was shipped to her new home at Mt. Vintage Equestrian Center in May 2005.   With the help of many wonderful friends and trainers she is progressing quite nicely.  She is truly a wonderful equine partner and I could not ask for a more kind and willing horse.

Special thanks to everyone who provided me with expert advice and guidance.  Also special thanks to my friends at Mt. Vintage  all of whom have helped me go through the grueling process of finding the "right" horse, and for their continuing support.  Although Lady and I qualify as the dreaded "green on green",  I truly believe we are a perfect match.

August 2005    30 Days Training at Day Break Farm in Aiken, SC by Stephanie Von bidder.

Stephanie did amazing work with Lady.  I was so impressed with her progress, especially since she was only there for 30 days.  I wish my budget could have allowed for 60 more days.  I would highly recommend Stephanie.  You can reach her by email at svonbidder@msn.com or by calling (803) 221-7194.

September 24, 2005 -- MCG Camp Rainbow Benefit Show  Lady's First Show!

Class 19 Go As You Please Open - 4th place out of  approx 21 horses

Due to limited canter work, we decided it was best to only enter walk/trot classes: English Go As You Please Open, Go As You Please Open, and Walk/Trot English/Western Any Age.  In my eyes, Lady did an amazing job for her first show, especially considering the large class sizes and the fact that it was at the Hippodrome.  Way to go Lady!

November 12, 2005 - Wind Ridge Stables Schooling Horse Trials

Lady and I entered our very first schooling Horse Trials at the Amoeba Level.  It was a beautiful day and we had so much fun!  I discovered that Lady seems to really enjoy cross-country.  We scored a 29.5 in our dressage test (Intro A).  Special thanks to Chris Quinn, Anita Roberts, Maria McGarity and Renee Segree for their guidance and support.  After all was said and done, we finished 3rd in our division out of 6 entries.  Again, I was so proud of Lady...she really tried her best and I couldn't have asked for more.  The day far exceeded  my  expectations!

January 7, 2006  Wind Ridge Stables Schooling H/J ShowI

Lady and I entered our first schooling Hunter/Jumper Show.  The morning was so cold that my toes were numb.  I almost scratched because I was quite sure that I could not ride without feeling in my toes ha ha.  Luckily, the day ended up being warm and sunny.  We ended up finishing Champion in the Hopeful Hunter Division, and Reserve Champion in the Walk/Trot Adult Rider and Walk/Trot Over Poles Divisions.  The class sizes were small, but I am so proud of Lady nonetheless.  Once again, she more than exceeded my expectations.  She really seemed to enjoy the day!

In nearly every picture I have of Lady she has her ears perked beautifully,
which is characteristic of her personality.  In this picture, however, Lady
does not look very happy
..she was a little concerned about those strange
blue, red, and yellow things hanging by her neck!

February 2006   30 Days Training at Jasmine Farm in Windsor, SC by Valerie Swygert

Dressage trainer, Valerie Swygert  worked with Lady for 30 days.  She concentrated on getting Lady on the bit, getting her into frame, and also worked on her canter departure.  Valerie's work was amazing.  I could not believe that this was my horse moving so lovely and forward.  I would highly recommend Valerie as an instructor and trainer.  Visit her web site at www.jasminefarm.com.   By the way...she hosts great CT/Dressage schooling shows at her farm!

March 18, 2005  Claddagh Farm Open Show

What a beautiful day for a horse show!  We were scheduled to go on a benefit trail ride in Aiken today, however, plans fell through…so we decided to show at Claddagh’s Open Show.  I’m so glad we went.  We ended up with 3-Third Place and 1 –First Place finish.  It was good experience for both Lady and I.  It was windy and there were new sights and sounds for Lady to experience…one of which was a series of rifle shots that pierced the air during one of our classes.  Then there was the very scary announcer box complete with glass that also served as a mirror.  Lady was none too thrilled with this strange box that was sure to house a large monster…however, I am happy to report that Lady did not come unglued and was steady and calm the entire dayJ  Have I mentioned lately that I love and adore my horse?   No pictures from the show.  My sweet husband did video tape most of the day..so I have lots of opportunities to re-visit our successes and the areas that we  need to work on.  All-in-all, a wonderful day with great friends and my hubby!  Special thanks to Don Baxley for hauling our horses and for his endless help and encouragement!

April 15, 2005 - Wind Ridge Stables Schooling Horse Trials

I entered Lady in the Amoeba Division of the Horse Trials.  We finished 1st in the Adult Amoeba Division.  My close friend’s son, Joseph Glass rode Lady in the Amoeba CT  Division and he also finished 1st.   Lady scored a 38 in our Dressage Test (Intro A).   It was a beautiful, sunny, and breezy day….however, blazing HOT!  Many thanks to Mary Maxey for schooling us and for her support.  Again, my wonderful husband was able to video tape our dressage test and cross country ride.  My dear friend Nancy Glass videotaped our stadium round and she made sure we always had a cool drink on hand to help stay hydrated.   I love watching the videos…they offer “in your face” feedback that can’t be denied…..like the pictures taken from a back view that show the saddle raising up when going over a jump..,.do you think I may have been gripping with the knees a little?  Hmmmmmm.   I try not to get discouraged by these revealing photos…on the contrary, they motivate me to learn more and to improve. Also special thanks to Colleen Hill who forwarded some pictures she took of me riding and to Chris Quinn of Equine Expressions for the photo. Also, my sincerest thanks to Julie Wisz (congrats on her 1st place BN finish!) for hauling lady to Wind Ridge Stables and to  Chuck and Cindy Lamp & Jessica Griffin for hauling Lady back to Mt. Vintage.  I am so thankful for my wonderful friends, family, and last but not least, my fabulous horse!   Click on link for Dressage Test Score Sheet

May 20, 2006 - Claddagh Farm Open Show

Today, a group of us from Mt. Vintage showed at Claddagh Farm...myself, Joseph Glass, and Vicki Ogelsby.  Our ever-wonderful barn manager, Don Baxley, hauled all of us and our mounts to the show.  Severe weather threatened the show.  Two serious storms skirted by the show grounds, but fortunately, the worst we got was a few drops of rain...tornado warnings and all.  I entered Lady in 5 classes.  We finished with 3-firsts, 1-third, and 1-fifth place finish.   It was a lot of fun with great friends!  Special thanks to Joshua Glass for taking pictures of us.

June 10, 2006 - Pine Top Schooling Horse Trials

What a fabulous weekend!  The temperatures soared near 100 degrees, I managed to crumple my husband's tailgate on his dually and put a good sized dent in my friend's trailer (bless you Jessica  Griffin for your understanding..don't worry folks, I'm having it repaired to good as new!) Lady lost a shoe while schooling on Friday, but other than that, you couldn't wipe the smile off my face.  Lady was petrified of these new surroundings...she was not impressed with the beautiful sprawling landscape and the thrill of so many competitors swirling about...but I sure was!  I met so many nice people at Pine Top and saw some old friends too.  Special thanks to Bob Richards for schooling with me on Friday and for his and his wife's encouragement and support the day of the event.  A big thank you to Jay Shelby (Mt. Vintage farrier) who made a special trip at 10pm on Friday to replace Lady's missing shoe so I wouldn't miss out on Saturday.  A huge thank you to Don Baxley, Mt. Vintage Barn Manager, who met me at the barn to make sure Lady loaded ok (I'm the world's worst loader), called to check on me multiple times, and who arranged for the farrier to meet me at Pine Top.  Also, thanks to Liz and Dori from Saddlebrook Farm for letting me follow them around the stadium course...I still struggle with memorizing those blasted courses..no matter how simple:) THANKYOU to my husband for not having a coronary when I damaged his truck and who helped me all day on Saturday.... and get this, NEVER COMPLAINED ONCE!  And for my son Trey, my daughter Lauren and my mom Helga who came out in that extreme heat.  Who said there were no nice people left in the world?  Lady and I entered the Amoeba Division which they ended up splitting into two levels based on experience. Ok, I didn't leave with a blue ribbon in my hand, but I did leave with a green one...6th place out of  7 in my division and the 7th withdrew..ha ha....yep, dead last...but I have a ribbon with PINE TOP on it and I'm tickled pink!  I sure appreciate Glen Wilson hosting this schooling event...without events like these, people like myself wouldn't get to enjoy such an experience!

Jasmine Farm SCDCTA Schooling Show   September 2, 2006

It was a beautiful day at Jasmine Farm.  The weather was fantastic with a nice breeze.  Lady and I did Intro Test A and Test B.  Lady was very difficult to get into frame today.  She was a little fussy but she seemed to try hard.  We finished 2nd and 3rd (not sure which one was Test A or B?)  A special thank you to Julie Wisz for hauling us to the show.  What a wonderful show partner!  I was scheduled to do the photography for this show, so a special thank you to to Chris Quinn for providing the photography so I could show.  Also, thanks to Brendan Quinn for holding our horses for us while we got our scores and grabbed a bite to eat.  What a nice young man! Pictures at www.equineexpressions.net.  Overall, a great day and lots of fun!

MCG Benefit Open Horse Show    September 23, 2006

Lady and I joined a group of Mt. Vintage riders to compete in this show.  It was an Open Show format.  Myself, Joseph Glass, Vicki Oglesby, Valarie Trapp, Alice McNamara, and Sassy all competed in various classes.  Lady and I earned one "reserve" finish, Valarie came home with a Blue Ribbon, and Joseph and Sassy did well in several classes.  The class sizes were very large.  As usual, we all had a blast together.  Mt. Vintage has an awesome group of boarders and a terrific barn manager.  Several residents of Mt. Vintage came out to cheer us on, and Mrs. Sharp took all of the photos (thank you!)  We all appreciate their support and for taking the time to come watch.   We had lots of good food and good company on hand for the day!  Thanks to Don Baxley for hauling this motley crew to the show...ha ha.

Wind Ridge Schooling Horse Trials   October 14, 2006

Today Lady and I competed in the Schooling Horse Trials at Windridge Stables.  We competed in the Amoeba Division of the Horse Trials and also did Intro Test B.  Lady earned us a blue ribbon in both!  The weather was absolutely perfect and we were joined by my husband and children and several ladies from Mt. Vintage.  Everyone from our barn came home with ribbons (congrats to Vickie, Alice, and Leslie!) We all had an absolute blast!!  Lady was "ready to go" in cross country.  I can't wait until I am a more skilled rider and I can just let her go and have fun.  We were able to canter parts of the stadium and cross-country today.   My goal is to canter both in the November Trials.  I nearly fell off during stadium...Lady was none-too-thrilled with the stadium jumps.  I lost my stirrups once during stadium and once during cross country.  I'm still catching myself gripping at the knees..hopefully more seat time will cure this bad habit.  Valerie Swygert was the dressage judge and provided us with a lot of valuable feed back.  She is an awesome judge! Thanks to Bert and Trey for videotaping my rides.  Also Bert took some really great pictures.  Maybe I have a photographer in the making?? As always, many thanks to Don Baxley for hauling us to the show.  I thoroughly enjoyed spending the day with great friends and my family....not to mention my fabulous, wonderful, fantastic, terrific  horse who always tries to do whatever I ask of her.  I am so very lucky to have her.

Wind Ridge Schooling Horse Trials  - Season Final   November 11,  2006
2006 Champion - Amoeba Division,  Reserve High Point Champion----yeeeeehaaaaw!

Lady and I competed by ourselves today.  Don Baxley hauled Lady to Wind Ridge and left his truck and trailer for us.  Initially I was nervous about being alone, but it really ended up being ok.  I had a lot of quiet, quality time with Lady.  Also, there was plenty of good folks at the show to talk to and who offered us encouragement.  The riders from Full Circle Farm and Saddlebrook Farm were especially supportive and friendly and I really appreciate it!   It was a beautiful sunny and warm day.   We entered the Amoeba Division and also did Intro Test B.  Lady finished 2nd in Intro B.  We cantered our stadium round for the first time ever and she jumped clean.  She broke stride a couple of times, but overall she did awesome.  Our cross country ride was quite an experience!  After we cleared the first two jumps I was cantering Lady around some trees...as we entered the open field, she spooked hard to the right and started crow-hopping and slinging her head around....basically, came unglued, ha ha.  She remained quite "spunky" the entire cross-country ride, but we ended up jumping clean and somehow I managed not to fall:)  We finished 1st in the Amoeba Division for the day and for the season and we earned Reserve High Point Champion for the year.  It was a fabulous day and I had so much fun! Special thanks to Don Baxley for taking the time to haul Lady for me.  Also thanks to Cindy Tilghman for hosting this event.  Beginners like myself really need this type of venue in order to learn and gain experience.

Wind Ridge Schooling Hunter Jumper Series  - Season Final   November 18,  2006
2006 Year End Award - Hopeful Hunter Division 1st Place

This was the final show of the Wind Ridge Hunter/Jumper series for 2006.  Don Baxley hauled 8 horses from Mt. Vintage to compete.  It was a beautiful day and we all had a lot of fun.  Lady and I entered 3 divisions today...Hopeful Hunter, Cross Bar Hunter, and Baby Green Hunter.  I decided to ride outside of my comfort zone today and to enter two classes that I have never done before.  It was so much fun and Lady really rose to the occasion.  As always, she tried her best and had a great attitude.  In the end we ended up with 1 - year end award, 2 Champion ,  4  - 1st Place, 2 - 2nd Place, 1 - 3rd, and 1 - 4th place ribbon.  I was so proud of my girl!! Congrats to my fellow Mt. Vintage boarders who also had a  successful day.  What a wonderful group of friends!  Thanks to Nancy for bringing the sub sandwich...I was so hungry it tasted like Prime Rib!! ha ha

Quintynne Hill SCDCTA Schooling Show -  January 20, 2007   Our First Training Level Test!!!!

I am usually the show photographer at Quintynne Hill but I have always wanted to show there myself.  Lucky for me, Chris Quinn agreed to do the photography so I could show.   Lady and I rode Intro Test A (4th), Intro Test B (2nd) and Training Level Test 1 (3rd).  We really were not ready for the Training Level test because her canter departure and canter in general  is still very weak.  But through the encouragement of friends, we gave it a shot.   Lady was in a foul mood all day, which is uncharacteristic for her, but we are all entitled to an occasional bad day, right?  I would like to thank Julie Wisz for hauling us to the show...she is a wonderful show partner.  She and Kid rode in the same tests and finished 1st in all three.  Congrats Julie!!  Also, thanks to the Mt. Vintage gang that included Don Baxley, Vickie Oglesby, Nancy Glass and Joseph Glass for coming to the show to offer their support and encouragement....it was a long drive for them to come watch....I really appreciate it.   I'm so happy that we went and I thoroughly enjoyed showing at this beautiful facility.

Today was FREEZING COLD!  It never seemed to warm up and the wind felt like it cut to the bone.  A group of us from Mt. Vintage showed today despite the weather although I think we all needed our heads examined!  A couple of times I had to remove my boots and hold my feet under the floor heat in my truck...just so I could have the luxury of feeling in my toes:)  The new class list for the Wind Ridge Stables Hunter series is fantastic and I want to personally thank Cindy Tilghman for all of the hard work that went in to securing sponsors so all of us can enjoy wonderful ribbons, prizes, and year end awards!!  Thanks to the gang from Up and Over Farm and Fireside Equestrian Center for their support and encouragement.  It is so awesome to have people cheer each other on!  Thanks to Don Baxley for hauling us to the show and to Nancy and the boys for loading my mare for me so I didn't have to make the early drive to the barn. Thank you Alice for the yummy sandwiches. Congrats to Leslie, Joseph, and Joshua on their fantastic results today!

Tadpole Stadium Round Video (low resolution-broadband)

Today was the day Lady and I made our first attempt at Tadpole.  Amoeba went well, but Tadpole...well not quite as well.  Stadium was great, except for a refusal on the last jump.  Lady was very strong on cross country and I spent the entire time trying to keep her under control.  Three of the tadpole cross country jumps were too intimidating for me so we skipped them.  We did ride the entire course which was fun.  Overall it was a wonderful day and I was quickly reminded that both Lady and I need to work with a trainer for jumping!!!!!!  Congrats to Alice McNamara on her excellent dressage tests. Special thanks to Don Baxley for hauling us to the show!

-Intro Rider Horse Trial - 2nd place (Dressage Score 33.5%) Clear Round Stadium & Cross Country
Today was so much fun.  Wind Ridge Stables offered all new courses for this event.  Intro riders enjoyed a much longer course and it was a blast.  Due to a change in jobs, I now have the opportunity to ride Lady 3 - 4 times per week.  The result is that I have a much fitter and energetic horse!  Lady was a little fussy during Intro Test A but was much more relaxed in Intro Test B.  We took a safe and methodical approach to stadium cantering some only between jumps and trotting over the jumps.  During cross country Lady got a little strong and excited, but was a good, good girl overall.  I've mentioned this before, but I do really look forward to the day when I can just let her go.  I tried at one point today, but she got nervous as we passed some of the bigger jumps and got a little out of hand.  I think she was afraid that I was going to ask her to go over them! Little does she know that her rider is a BIG CHICKEN and wouldn't dream of it at this point.  I'm just happy as can be going over my 18" - 2' fences....good enough for me...ha ha. Congrats to Leslie Biddinger on winning her division, Alice McNamara on her fantastic dressage tests, to Elaine and Paige for Sage's dressage debut, and to Joseph for his  Horse Trial debut on his lovely Irish Draught mare and a 5th place finish!!!!! As always, a big thank you to Don Baxley for hauling us all to the show and for his never ending support for all his boarders.  Thanks to my husband for all of his help and for taking the time to come and support me.  Also I would like to mention that Cindy and Glen did a great job for this event.  Not only did they take the time to change up the courses, but Cindy worked hard to secure sponsorships in order for all of us to enjoy beautiful ribbons, saddle pads, and gift certificates.  THANKS CINDY AND GLEN!!!!!  If you have never been to a Wind Ridge event, I encourage you to give it a try.  It's a fantastic schooling venue with friendly folks! Also, a big thank you to Joshua Glass, our official Mt. Vintage videographer....GREAT JOB!

Jasmine Farm SCDCTA Schooling Show   June 9, 2007

Results:  Intro Test A 64.5%   Intro Test B 65%  (3rd and 4th place, not sure which one is which?)

Well today started out with a bang!  It was my first attempt to trailer Lady to a show by myself.  Oh yeah,  Lady now has a new ride...a Sundowner Gooseneck...yippppeeeee:)  It took me approximately 20 minutes to hook up the trailer (10 more than I had planned) and about 1hr 15 minutes to load Lady (about an hour more than I had planned)About 30 minutes into my trailer loading disaster, I was thinking intently about how I would word the "Lady for sale" ad on equine.com! (just kidding), but I was truly at my wits end with my dear sweet boss mare.  If nothing else, I am persistent, and she finally "decided" she would step in her new wheels.  By the way, she has ridden in the trailer twice...so no excuses:) We arrived past time for Test A and had about 5 or so minutes to warm up for Test B.  Many, many, many thanks go out to Cindy and Chuck Lamp for their help as I scrambled to run a brush over Lady and tack her up.  Chuck even went and picked up my number for me...THERE WAS NO TIME!  Lady was a good girl during her tests and seemed to really try, especially in light of the fact that she had virtually no warm up.  Fortunately, Valarie Swygert and the Judge, Melanie Mitchell, were kind enough to allow me to do Test A before the lunch break....so we were able to ride both tests.  I was so grateful.  It only took a few minutes to load Lady to go home....thank goodness, because I was close to suffering a heat stroke! Thanks to my hubby who met me at the barn to help unload etc...boy was I glad to see him.  We're off to Quintynne Hill next weekend...gonna give Training Level Test 1 another try....our canter work still leaves A LOT to be desired.....God help us:)

Quintynne Hill Farm SCDCTA Schooling Show   June 16, 2007

Results:  Intro Test B -  52%    Training Level 1 - 50.4% (last place in both tests)

Today Lady and I made the 50 minute haul to Quintynne Hill by ourselves.  Bert followed us to the barn in the morning and hooked up for me in order to save some time....just in case Lady gave me trouble loading. (Thanks Bert!)  The good news is that Lady loaded beautifully and hauled like an angel.  It was quite another story after I tacked her up.  During warm up Lady was bucking when I asked for the canter, she was resistance to move forward and resistant to my aids in general.  Honestly, she was in a foul mood.  Similar to the last time I showed at QH, Lady was afraid of the judges stand and none-too-thrilled with the mirrors.  At one point during Test B she stepped out of the arena but the judge was kind enough not to eliminate us citing that it was a schooling show.  Lady cantered both directions in Training 1 test, although her departures where not clean and we were not well balanced.  The judge questioned the fact that I did not use a dressage whip or spurs.  We overshot the center line at the end in both tests.  Lady did halt better this weekend...we worked on this some after several wiggly halts at Jasmine last weekend. One comment stands out from the Training Test "this very capable horse needs to respect you more".  I have studied all of the judges comments and plan to work on all the problem areas.  Obviously, this was not a terrific day in regards to performance and scores, but I still had a lot of fun and left with good information from the judges score sheet and also some terrific advice that she gave me after one of our rides.  I really appreciate the time the judge took with me and I value her words of wisdom.  I met some really nice people at the show and had a great time.  I love my mare and I feel confident that if I put in the proper amount of time in schooling Lady and start on a regular lesson schedule with my trainer, that we can slowly pull things together.

Jumping Branch is a beautiful facility and although the temperatures were brutally hot and miserable, I'm very glad we went for the experience. Our scores improved, although only slightly, from our last schooling show which is a positive. Honestly, Lady and I both are pretty intolerant to extreme temperatures, so it is amazing that we didn't scratch. Lot's of nice folks at the show and we had a lot of fun. Many thanks to Valerie Swygert(& hubby) and Leslie Biddinger (& dog) for braving the heat to come out and support us. What's next??...PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!

Paradise Farm Clinic - Aiken SPCA Benefit  September 15 - 16, 2007
Sat - Stadium with Ann Thal   Sun - Cross Country with Lellie Ward

Lady and I joined Julie Wisz and her horse Boris for this wonderful clinic.  What a thrill to be taught by two very talented and accomplished trainers and competitors.   Both Lady and I were pushed out of our safe little comfort zones and it was good for us both.  Many thanks to Lellie Ward and Ann Thal for their expert instruction.  What a wonderful event to benefit the Aiken SPCA.  Special thanks to Julie Wisz for hauling us to the clinic and for feeding Lady Saturday evening for me!  I look forward to attending more clinics with Lady in the future.

Ashland Farm Halloween Hunter Pace - October 27, 2007

What fun!!!  Julie Wisz and her horse Boris joined Lady and I for this fun Hunter Pace near Covington, GA.  It was about a 2 hr haul to get there, but well worth it. We dressed in Halloween theme and had so much fun.  First, we rode a cross-country course (Black Cat Run) individually.  Lady and I finished about 20 or so seconds over time but they were kind enough to give us a blue ribbon since we were so close.  I had to trot some of the course as she was quite excited and nervous about some of the surroundings, including the white tent that obviously housed a horse-eating dragon of some sort!  Afterwards, we rode the Hunter Pace Flying Witches Division.  This was the walk-trot-canter division.  It was a beautiful ride and soooooo much fun.  Julie and I stopped at one point to help a young girl who had been bucked off her pony.  I offered to walk her pony across a creek for her because she was scared....well, she had good reason to be.  As I hopped over the creek, the pony leaped over it, into me and knocked me to the ground!!  Oh yes, it was pretty funny, and other than a slightly bruised ego, I was fine. The pony just stood there looking at me like, SUCKER!   I hopped back on Lady and we enjoyed the rest of our glorious ride.  We finished about 7 minutes over the optimum time which landed us a 4th place finish for our division.  I would highly recommend this ride to anyone who enjoys riding in the woods.  There is something for everyone and the people are so friendly.  I think this will be an annual event for Julie and I and we hope that others will come along with us next year!!

Lady  went too boot camp!  Training with Carrie Stinner - Aiken, SC  November 17, 2007
Boot camp is quite a stretch, Lady was living in an equine paradise at the Stinner Farm and she was treated like royalty.  Lady returned from training "a new horse".  First, she has physically changed with new muscle development and a much improved topline. Her gaits are more animated and have better rhythm. She also now responds so much better to the aids and moves off my leg incredibly well.   What an exceptional experience for myself and Lady.  I look forward to continuing our training under the expert guidance of Carrie. As always, I have so much to learn!!  I am so thankful to have such a wonderful horse and it is so much fun to learn and grow with her as a rider and a horsewoman.

February 16, 2008  Jasmine Farm SCDCTA Schooling Show
Training Level Test 1 - 60% - 4th place    Training Level Test 2 - 62.5% - 2nd place

A beautiful day!  This was Lady's first show in quite a while.  We had issues with staying on the bit, broke stride in the canter twice, I was sitting the trot most of the time (bad idea!!), but overall I was very pleased with my dear sweet Lady.  Special thanks to Bert for coming with me and for Valerie Swygert who very graciously offered to call my tests for me.  Jasmine Farm is a wonderful schooling show venue. If you choose to watch the video, please understand that I do not post these because I think they are so wonderful - or exquisite examples of dressage (ha!), on the contrary, I post them because dressage is a journey that takes time and it is fun for me to watch Lady grow ---- and me struggle to grow with her!!!  So what will we be up to until the next show....transitions, transitions, transitions!  Sound familiar????

March 19, 2008 Sporting Days Farm  SCDCTA Schooling Show
Amoeba CT - 1st Place    Training Level TOC - 56.5%

I have been to Sporting Days Farm many times to watch competitions, but this was my first time competing there.  This was a CT/Dressage/Field Hunter SCDCTA recognized schooling show.  It was well organized and a lot of fun!  Although Lady has been a lot better at staying on the bit, today she was not so cooperative, which really affected our training level test score.  I tried my best to maintain a nice rhythm which hopefully helped counter the "above the bit" situation.  Lady's canter departs were quite prompt although she was a bit of a slug today overall in the dressage arena.  In the jumping phase, Lady really did a terrific job.  She maintained a wonderful rhythm and was forward to each fence.  We cantered the entire round, except for a couple of simple lead changes...we had so much fun that I asked for a second round!!! What fun! Congrats to Leslie, my show partner for the day, on her big beautiful Blue Ribbon for her 71%+ field hunter test!!  A special thank you to Carrie Stinner for coming out to coach and support us.   It meant so much to us for her to take time out of her insanely busy schedule to support us!!!!

April 12, 2008   Tri-Hunt Hunter Pace  Hitchcock Woods - Aiken,SC
Hill Topper Division - 6th Place
Lady and I rode in the Hill Topper Division along with Julie Wisz (riding Kid) and Bob Richards (riding Lucky).  Judy, Leslie and Phil from Mt. Vintage rode in the First Flight Division and finished 3rd. There was a great turn out for the event and it was so much fun.  Lady really enjoys rides in the woods and we hope to do more Hunter Paces in the future!

April 26, 2008 Jasmine Farm  SCDCTA Schooling Show
Tadpole CT - 3rd Place   Dressage: 26.5%  Stadium: 8 faults

Lady and I had a lot of  fun today.  The weather was not very cooperative.  We dodged thunderstorms all day.  In the middle of our dressage test the bottom dropped out.  It was good experience for us and Lady didn't miss a beat.  I was soooo very proud of her.  She was concerned about the mirrors but handled them very well.  Jumping was interesting.  Lady spooked 3 times and one resulted in a refusal and one in a run out.  I nearly fell off once but managed to pull myself back up.  There were eleven fences and Lady did very well the last 5 or 6.  She and I are still learning and we have just recently started jumping lessons.  As always, Jasmine Farm is a fun and relaxed place to get show experience.  A special thank you to Joseph Glass who accompanied me to the show and was so very helpful!

June 7, 2008  Jasmine Farm SCDCTA Schooling Show
Tadpole CT - 1st Place (Dressage:  36.5%   Stadium: no faults)    Training Level Test 1:   62.17% (8th place)

I was so proud of Lady today!  It was pretty  hot and Lady is quite heat intolerant -- so I was pleasantly surprised at how much effort she put forth.    My mom joined us and was so helpful.  Like any wonderful mother, she made sure I drank plenty of water and I did the same for Lady.  Thanks so much Mom for videotaping and for all of your help!!!  My favorite part of the day was our stadium round.  We've been working really hard on rhythm and relaxation and Lady really pulled it off with only a slight hesitation over a few of the fences.  As we continue to work with our trainer, we are beginning to gain some confidence. We stopped by a peach stand on the way home from the show and offered Lady some...SHE LOVES PEACHES!!! I have a picture below four baby birds that are living inside my trailer hitch.  They have survived several rides to Aiken, which is a miracle, and are starting to grow wings!!  As of June 11th the baby birds have flown out of the nest!!!
